Midweek Video Snack--Lisa Bouchelle Performs "Time" at New York City Rescue Mission

Universal Recording artist, Lisa Bouchelle lends a hand at an event today at The New York City Rescue Mission where Al Yeganeh's charity, "Al's Feed The Hungry Foundation" (AFTHF), donated 20,000 bowls of soup to NYC's homeless and hungry. Bouchelle, a World Hunger Year (WHY) Artist Against Hunger and Poverty, performed her song "Time", which also appears on the WHY/Hard Rock Cafe compilation "Serve 3".

The objective of the New York City Rescue Mission (NYCRM), America's First Rescue Mission, has remained the same since its founding in 1872: to provide spiritual hope, food, clothing and shelter to people in crisis in New York City. This model has been replicated by 300 rescue missions throughout the country.

NYCRM overnight guests are offered nutritious meals, housing, spiritual guidance, medical/social service support and clean clothing. Our long-term residents are offered career development assistance, financial and job skills training, internet and e-mail access, and GED preparation courses. The men in our Recovery Program recieve weekly individual and group counseling, as well as Bible study and discipleship.

Podcasting Tip of the Week--GoToMeeting Meets Skype.

The title of this post is probably a bit misleading. We have no intention of posting a tip every week. Perhaps we'll have to rename it "Podcasting Tip of THIS week".

Anyway--a bunch of our nutty Twitter fiends (term of endearment), have asked how we record multi-person interviews for podcasts. For instance...Jim DeMaria, host of The Nurses Station is at his office, the interview subject is at their office, and the producer at the BullsEye PR office.

Here's what we do...We get the host and the guest on a conference call with GoToMeeting. I suppose you could use any conference call system, but that's the one we use. We like it. They are also the sponsors of our show, In No Particular Order.
So you get it...we love GoToMeeting.

Then, the producer calls into the conference call using Skype and we record it with a third party app Skype recorder called Call Recorder. This seems to work pretty well. The Skype recording needs to be converted from a .mov (don't know why it records in that format) to an MP3, but this can be done easily in iTunes.

I'm sure there are plenty of geeks who can tell us this is wrong and that we suck. Get back to us when you've got six shows all featured in the Top 20 in their iTunes category and perhaps we'll give a shit what you think.

Hope that helps.

BullsEye Johnny's Podcast Tips

From the blog of Devon Inspiration Ltd.

Top 3 tips on podcasting, from John Rarrick of Bullseye Public Relations

1) If you are producing a podcast for client or third party, take the time to first learn on your own dime, NOT the client’s. When we noticed that podcasts were going to be something that more people were going to want us to do, my partner and I started producing a show that we’d record on Saturday mornings when the phones weren’t ringing. At first, it was a production train-wreck. But over a few months, we blundered our way to first “acceptable”, and finally, “good” status. That show, by the way, which we didn’t even really mean for anyone to really hear, now has over 18,000 subscribers and a sponsor. Go figure.

2) realistic expectations for revenue. Some new podcasters think they should, in a just a few short weeks, be able to quit their day job and join the podcasting elite. Think again. This is still a new medium. Advertisers are still being made aware of what a podcast is. In these tough economic times, podcasters should present their shows as “low-cost options” to advertisers. Our rates for episode sponsors are rarely over $200.

3) Content is King. A boring show with great production value is not a recipe for success. We meet a lot of producers who are so obsessed with audio quality that they forget what the show was supposed to be about. Good content, as with any show (TV/Radio/Web) starts with good research and show prep. If you are interviewing an author and haven’t read the book, your listeners will know that in a second. Since most podcasts cater to a niche audience, staying informed on the subject matter is the key to getting new subscribers and keeping the ones you have.
